Serengeti National Park is among of the largest reserve found in Tanzania located in Mara and Simiyu Region. Historically from the ancient period, Maasai tribe were the native people of this area as they had been living their for many years with the wildlife in the Serengeti National Park.
The name "Serengeti" its self coined from Masaai word "siringet" which means "the place where land run on forever"
It should be noted that this area of the Serengeti area was in conjunction with the well-known area today as the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority, jointly was known as the "Great Serengeti" before the Ngorongoro reserve was separated in 1959 where even Maasai societies which lived in Serengeti area were transferred to the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority.
The size of the Serengeti National Reserve area is 14,763 square kilometres . Currently, the Serengeti National Reserve is the second largest reserve after the Ruaha National Reserve as it extended to its size and reach 20,380 square Kilometres.
The Grumeti River withing the park is famous for a large number of Nile crocodiles, stunning rocky, beautiful valleys with green vegentation. Animals such as lions, leopards , Hyenas, Wild dogs, African bush elephants,African Buffaloes, Easten Black Rhinoceroses, Masaai Giraffes and others.
Its also famous for its wildlife annual migration of over 1.5 million white bearded and and 250, 000 zebras. Its workshop of bird organisms of different species such as ostriches. Likewise, there are migratory birds from different parts of the world in the same season.
